As a result of the brainstorming session at the November CCL meeting in Himmel Park, five of us decided to form a CCL action team to monitor the activities of the Arizona Corporation Commission, and we named it ACC Watch.
According to my rough calculations from available official data, only approximately 78% of voters for the Democratic presidential candidate also voted for three members for the ACC; 79% of voters for the Republican candidate did so, as well.
ACC Watch will work toward the goal of Arizona reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050 by building accountability and transparency of the ACC, educating and fostering engagement of the electorate, partnering with other groups also working for decarbonization, and developing relationships with the ACC commissioners and our legislators to further the goals of clean energy production.
We believe the most effective way to make the commissioners accountable to the ratepayers—and Arizona citizens as a whole—is at the ballot box, by educating voters statewide about the effects of the commissioners’ decisions—not only on their wallets but also on the amount of greenhouse gas emissions they allow to be produced.
We’ll use www.TucsonCCL.com/ACC_Watch to provide timely information on any pending decisions of the ACC and opportunities to submit input to the commission, via different methods, and also share relevant news articles.
We invite you to join us in our efforts!!! We know that the ACC outreach that CCL and GTCC did before the election made a significant difference in Pima County, and we want to build on that success throughout the state. Please email me with your name and phone number to join our team. We anticipate getting together on Zoom by the end of January.
Thanks so much!
